嗜赌的父亲田岳平给30岁的田荆川留下了不堪的童年回忆，但在父亲病危之际，小田还是决定回到父亲身边打算陪父亲走完人生的最后一程。为了能一面照料父亲一面又能维持生计，小田在父亲所在民营医院里应聘做了一名护工。在这间医院里，由于人力物力有限，医护人员对老人的医疗养老服务开展得并不细致周到，甚至可以说是简单粗暴的，但即便如此，仍然有源源不断的老人被家人送到这里“安享晚年”。就这样，在一间间狭小的病房里，田荆川除了每天照顾父亲之外，同时也见到了一幕幕关于人性的故事。
