本剧改编自Taffy Brodesser-Akner的同名畅销小说，作者本人担任编剧。
故事讲述了四十多岁的Toby Fleishman最近分居了，他当年医学院还没毕业就结了婚，如今一头栽进通过APP约会的新世界里，这让他体验到了年轻时不曾有过的成功。就在他实现性自由的第一个夏天刚开始时，前妻Rachel突然消失，把孩子留给了他，自此杳无音讯。Toby在各种事情之间平衡着自己的生活——抚养孩子，与老朋友重新联系，在医院迎来等待已久的晋升，以及曼哈顿众多适合自己的女性。但他意识到，要想弄明白Rachel身上到底发生了什么，只有坦诚地审视两人的婚姻。
