《火线警探》改编自美国作家埃尔莫·伦纳德 (Elmore Leonard) 2001年知名罪案小说《当心火药》(Fire in the Hole)，讲述美国联邦执行法警雷伦·吉文斯 (Raylan Givens) 使用传统方法解决现代案件的火线故事。
雷伦浑身散发着浓浓的牛仔气息：头戴一顶浅色斯泰森毡帽，脚踏一对牛仔靴，腰备两把格洛克，不到万不得已绝不拔枪——要么不用，要用就快人一步、一击必中。
