社员们在高岗地一口气打了九眼井，每眼井出水都很旺，社员们都很高兴。可全社只有几部锅驼机，满足不了全社浇地的需要，大家都很着急。党支部郭书记进城几次也没搞到。听说生产资料公司有几部已拨给东照村但还未拉走的锅驼机，高老大急忙去找县委高书记批准借用。此时，高书记正与区委李书记在东照村与田主任等社干部研究东照村打井不出水的原因，看到这些，高老大没有马上提出调拨锅驼机的要求。高书记和李书记仔细查看柳庄出水情况和出水记录，发现柳庄把井都打在村北面，通过修建一条不渗水的水渠，引水浇灌较远的土地，于是决定在全县推广这种集中打井，修渠引水的方法。他们把东、西照村的打井队集中到柳庄，在柳庄成立一个抽水站以灌溉三村土地。高老大对这种做法一时想不通，他不同意三村合作打井，怕柳庄吃亏。高书记批评他自私，高老大不能接受。高书记耐心地说服他，终于使他认识到自己的错误，迅速投身到三村合作搞生产的运动中。他提出从合作打井开始将三村建设合并成一个社。高书记决定拨一台发电机给他们办一个发电厂，这样抽水、照明、磨面等等用电问题都解决了。东、西照村的人们听到这个消息，当夜便敲锣打鼓来到柳庄，人们在一起兴奋地研究打井、修渠、搞生产。在党的领导下，结合着农民群众的迫切需要，—个大办农村人民公社的高潮到来了。一轮红日从地平线上升起，放射出万道霞光，田野上充满了愉快的歌声。
